Cinema Divina

CinemaDivina is an emerging body of short films featured in contemplative practices and spirituality centers from Seattle to Los Angeles, from Vienna to Hong Kong. Each film is developed through and for lectio divina, an ancient contemplative practice. CinemaDivina translates lectio divina to a filmic paradigm. Viewing CinemaDivina films within the context of this contemplative screening practice may be especially beneficial; many have found it to be a process that opens hearts, engages the imagination, inspires insights, and awakens the sacred.

Marilyn Freeman originated CinemaDivina at St. Placid Priory and Spirituality Center, the Benedictine monastery where she is an oblate. In particular, Sisters Lucy Wynkoop and Mary Giles Mailhot have provided extraordinary guidance and support. Sr. Lucy is co-author along with Christine Valters Paintner of Lectio Divina: Contemplative Awakening and Awareness, recently published by Paulist Press.
